I have been witnessing for years the media fantasy/image of Eurocentrics whom are contstantly and incessantly “improving” their looks via botox, skin peels and other forms of toxic plastic surgery. They have and continue to create a world in which people learn to never be content with what they have. This so-called beautiful “white aesthetic/ideal” that “whites” have force fed the world is a debt that I see them paying (unfortunately, many sisters too). The constant/incessant need for butt jobs, face lifts, nose jobs, breast this, breast that is overwhelming to a sane person’s spirit. What void are you trying to fill? If you are as wonderful, beautiful, loveable as you claim, why are you always trying to change what you have forced the world to covet (white skin, “beautiful ” bodies, Eurocentric features etc)? I can go on and on.Reading “The Beauty Con Game” brought so much comfort, clarity and understanding to me. It was like removing the 100 ton truck off of my back. After that I KNEW that I would never look at things the same way. Everything in the book reassured me of what I knew and suspected deep down in my spirit and that is a freeing feeling.
Now, I just pity people like this. I always tell my daughter to look in the mirror and love black first.

This is a must read for black people. I realized a lot of the deception and lies already. However, I'm pleased to read that what I perceived was correct. I'll will read other books by Umoja.
This book is very sobering and thought provoking. I really learnt a lot. It helped me understand what is going on in the world today, especially some of my experiences as a black woman. Excellent!!!
Excellent a must read! Umoja provides insight and clarity into the multi-billion dollar industries known as entertainment, fashion, and cosmetics. She exposes the psychological manipulation each practices to increase their sales and the expense of races and cultures and in service of a faux European beauty standard. This would make a perfect gift for adolescents and people overly concerned with their appearance.
For centuries, the lie of black inferior has been promoted by the system of white supremacy. Today, more and more black people are refuting that lie all of the time. This book is a great book. It shows the images of black men and black women expressing their humanity and their dignity. The book also confronts the lies of white racism and tells the truth about how a lot of black women love their natural hair as well. The Beauty Con Game is short, easy to read, and it can grow the consciousness of the black community. I highly recommend it for anybody. Loving our blackness, our hair, our natural being is the great perquisite in us being truly liberated as black people. Freedom is not just about political freedom or economic justice. It is the power for us to embrace the skin that we are in literally.

Every black person should read this book. The book contains a lot of constructive information and I reference it very often. After you finish this book check out the other books from this author if you hven't already. I highly recommend all four.
Where do i begin, my words will NEVER come close to describing what the authors so eloquently wrote in this little jewel.
The truth of the matter is that Western "beauty" standards were socially designed for the purpose of demonizing the Natural elegance of Black women. In order for white women to be "seen" as "beautiful", Black women had to be made to be seen as the opposite.
To prove this point, the authors put forth the authentic images of Black women (e.g. slender, fit, pretty, naturally long kinky/coiled hair, and warm smiles)..you know, characteristics in many Black women that threatens to dispel the falsehood of the "superior" looking and behaving white woman.
This book is for all Black people no matter where they are on this globe because we are all faced with the same thing--the demoralization of the Black woman for the purpose of preventing the propagation of Black Nations.
First allow me to begin by stating that I enjoy listening to Pam on the COWS radio show. She is so intelligent, insightful and learned.
This book is such a great and engaging read, providing an in-depth look at how notions of universal beauty is conceived and is backed up with historical facts and data. I have yet to finish this book however its a quick and engaging read! Highly recommended if you are a person of color attempting to get your free on! Unlock your mind of the invisible shackles and you too will discover truth to power. Beauty isn't just in the eye of the beholder, it's a concept of the mind. Bye it! Read it! Repeat! Remain informed!
